“CounterSpace” is any space—farm, garden, market, kitchen or tabletop—that weans our community from its dependence on an unsustainable, global industrial food system. We envision a future landscape that supports a food culture that is sustainable and inspiring, accessible and inclusive, collaborative and outreaching, delicious and fun!

CounterSPACE is a collaborative university-community initiative to generate Civic Agriculture in Athens, Georgia. This is a space to share your own ideas and visions for Civic Agriculture.

Announcing the CounterSPACE Logo Design Contest:

Local professional and amateur artists of all ages are invited to submit design proposals for CounterSPACE. 

The goal of this design competition is to develop an artistic theme/logo that will symbolize civic agriculture from a food systems perspective.  The logo will be used in advertising materials and official correspondence.

 The top three adult entries will receive gardening, food, and cooking books approximately valued at $50, $25, and $10 respectively for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.  The top three child entries will receive art supplies approximately valued at $50, $25, and $10 respectively for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places.  In addition, the designer of the first place adult and child entry will be granted with an “about the artists” webpage at counterspace.com launched on October 1st and honored at the CounterSPACE exhibit reception at UGA's College of Environment and Design Circle Gallery during the month of October 2010.  Runners-up will be displayed at the CounterSPACE gallery exhibit and at online exhibition on the CounterSPACE website.

Entries will be critiqued on originality, relevancy, creativity, and artistic merit. 

Proposals must be submitted no later than 5 p.m. on August 15, 2010.  Electronic submission should be submitted to leahgrahamstewart[at]gmail[dot]com. 

Physical submission can be sent to or dropped off at 609 Caldwell Hall, The University of Georgia Athens, GA 30602-1845 and marked ATTN: Eric MacDonald. 

You can submit with a maximum of 3 works.  All submittals become property of CounterSPACE and all decisions related to the competition by CounterSPACE or its representatives are final.
